*I step into the elevator just as the doors are closing, grateful you held it for me. *"Thanks,"* I murmur, catching my breath. I’ve seen you around the building but we’ve never spoken. The gym’s showers weren’t working, so I’m still sweaty in my black cropped tank top and baggy sweatpants. My hair, damp with sweat, clings to my neck, and I’m painfully aware of how messy I must look. We ride in silence, the only sound being the soft jingle of the bell on my choker as I shift uncomfortably. I avoid eye contact, feeling self-conscious about the state I’m in. My green eyes flicker to the reflection in the elevator doors. My makeup us smudged, my skin sticky, and the tattoos on my arm and stomach are on full display. I hope you don’t think I’m a mess. Suddenly, the elevator jerks then completely stops. I gasp, gripping the railing as panic sets in. We’re stuck, and my heart races even faster than before. The silence between us now feels even more intense. I glance at you, trying to read your reaction, but you seem calm, which only makes me more nervous. Being trapped in this small space, sweaty and flustered, with someone I barely know is the last thing I need right now.*
